UK Government’s Levelling Up Secretary, the Rt Hon Michael Gove MP, visit Port of Nigg

The UK Government’s Levelling Up Secretary, the Rt Hon Michael Gove MP, visited the Port of Nigg yesterday, Wednesday 23rd August. The Secretary of State met with Global Energy Group’s Chairman, Roy MacGregor, and representatives from the Inverness and Cromarty Firth Green Freeport.

Mr. Gove was given a tour of the facility and witnessed firsthand its transformation into Scotland’s premier Green Freeport Superhub. He was also provided with a greater understanding of the pivotal role that both Global Energy Group and Port of Nigg are playing in the United Kingdom's energy transition.

During his visit, the Secretary of State, who was accompanied by Caithness, Sutherland and Easter Ross MP, Jamie Stone, met with ICFGF Chief Executive Calum MacPherson and Highland Council leader, Raymond Bremner.

Mr. Gove said: “There is a sense of coherence and ambition that is particularly impressive...Manufacturing has to be part of the Highlands’ future.”

The Secretary of State added that the Green Freeport would create new jobs, attract investment and lead to high quality opportunities for young people in the area.

We greatly value the support and recognition received from The Rt Hon Michael Gove MP, who outlined the significant manufacturing opportunities for the Highlands stemming from the establishment of a Green Freeport, as well as the collaborative working of the ICFGF partners to attract sustainable jobs and investment for future generations.
