The Story

It’s taken the vision and ambition of many to bring Global Energy Group to this point — and here we look back on some key events along the way.

2005

After a period of sustained success and continued growth, Roy MacGregor formed the Global Energy Group.

2006

Global Energy Group acquire Isleburn, adding fabrication/manufacture shop capacity and expertise for large scale subsea and topside projects to the group portfolio..

2007

New intro renewables. Global Energy Group fabricates and assembles mono-piles for one of the UK’s first offshore wind power generation projects, Scroby Sands.

2008

The company re-branded creating a strong visual statement to reflect the values of the Group, our fast growth and superior service delivery. Alongside the re-brand the company moved to Henderson Road, a new Inverness-based Headquarters.

2009

Global Energy Group makes waves. Fabrication and assembly of the world’s first tidal and wave power generation demonstrator devices.

2011

Purchase of Nigg yard - a major step forward for the group’s ambitious plans to develop the ageing 238-acre site, as a modern, multi-user facility serving a range of energy sectors, including oil & gas and renewables.

2012

Investment from MITSUI & CO. Japanese corporation Mitsui & Co take a 25% stake in Global Energy Group.

2013

The acquisition of Port Services Group added quayside operations to the capability of Caledonian Towage and MF Marine. This followed the purchase of new cranes, giving GPSS Scotland's largest fleet.

2015

Energy Park to Port. The completed south quay plays a critical role in attracting larger projects to Nigg. Vast lay-down and load-out facilities are essential to the renewables industry and over 1,100m of available quayside, coupled with deep-water access, gives Nigg greater capability over other facilities in the North of Scotland.

Re-evaluating our culture. In 2018 we looked at ourselves. Our culture and values are at the heart of our organisation and underpin everything we do. We believe that having good people that feel valued and supported to succeed makes us collectively stand out.

2019

Global Energy Group has combined the brownfield engineering capability of Apollo with the proven capability of GEG’s Integrity and Construction division. Global E&C will be the only fully-integrated EPC contractor in the UK oil & gas market that is exclusively focused on the brownfield OPEX space.

An additional 225m quayside commissioned at Port of Nigg for 2022.
