Ocean Valiant SPS - Project Completion
The beginning of April saw the arrival of Diamond Ocean Valiant to Nigg Energy Park for a major survey, refurbishment and upgrade to be carried out by GEG Marine Projects.
The Ocean Valiant, a deep water semi-submersible drilling unit, first entered service in 1988 but this latest upgrade should ensure many more years of effective operation within the oil and gas industry.
This latest contract has proved to be another successful pairing between GEG Marine Projects and Diamond Offshore Drilling with the project being executed on time, to the client’s satisfaction and more importantly, without injuring any of our personnel. Upwards of 168,000 man hours were accrued on the project and its success can be largely attributed to the positive relationship which has developed with this client, which in turn has created good lines of communication.
According to a report recently published by Scottish Natural Heritage, the number of bottlenose dolphins using the Moray Firth Special Area of Conservation remains stable. This is the most northern resident bottlenose dolphin population in the world, and recognised as a major tourist attraction along Scotland’s northeast coast, generating upwards of £4m per year for the local economy. As socially responsible employers, GEG Marine Projects and Diamond Offshore played their part in the protection of local waters by the placement of an environmental boom to ensure that, in the unlikely event of an accidental release, any contaminant would be securely contained and easily recoverable within the dock.
We look forward to our next project with Diamond Offshore Drilling.
