International Volunteer Day 2020

What we did…

Last month, with the invaluable support of Business Volunteers, twenty individuals from across the Group took a day out of the business to volunteer as a team, and help make a difference to two chosen charities within their local areas. Glenurquhart Childcare Centre, a small community run children’s centre in the Highlands and Torry Community Wildlife & Nature Garden in Aberdeen were visited by our volunteers who rolled up their sleeves and got to work.

The teams worked together to build a secret magical forest school by making wooden chairs, tables, dens and bird boxes and to give some much needed TLC to the wildlife and nature garden after an arson attack and lack of volunteers due to the pandemic.

Why we did it…

High on the agenda of the Group’s objectives is to increase our focus on Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), Diversity & Inclusion (D&I) and Wellbeing. As there was already some great work being carried out by individuals and businesses across the group, we wanted to capture and develop these to create a more group wide strategic approach. Creating the opportunity for our people to volunteer helps to improve the lives of others, but also supports us in gaining a greater sense of belonging to our communities and feel more connected to the world around us.

In a world of COVID-19 it is crucial for us to not only increase staff engagement, morale and motivation, but also to sustain important community services.

Thank You…

A huge well done to everyone across our business who has taken part so far, it’s been great to see the drive and commitment and we look forward to more events already planned for 2021!
