Global Energy Group complete first Onshore Wind storage and Marshalling project at the Port of Nigg

Global Energy Group and the Port of Nigg were selected for the Storage and Marshalling contract by Siemens Gamesa for the Gordonbush Onshore wind Farm due to a successful track record in the delivery of wind components, our strategic location and skills and expertise of the our onsite logistics teams.

The Port received a total of 88 components over 4 months supporting the offloading and load out of towers and blades onto heavy transport vehicles before they were transported, by road, to the Windfarm North of the facility.

Quayside delivery of the turbine components began in late December with the final components successfully loading out from the Port of Nigg for their onward journey to the Gordonbush wind farm in Brora, Sutherland on Tuesday 9^th March. The sheer scale of the 63.5m blades meant that a tremendous amount of planning went into the final from Nigg to the final destination in Sutherland.

The Port of Nigg will now start work on the assembly of a specialist giant ring crane in anticipation for the arrival of the components for the Seagreen project in July. The Port of Nigg has been transformed since our purchase in 2011 to the world-class multi energy site we have today. Well done all the teams involved in executing what will be our 3^rd major storage and marshalling project.”

About Gordonbush

Gordonbush is an operational 35 turbine wind farm, west of Brora, Sutherland, in the Scottish Highlands. The main construction began in August 2010, with the site becoming fully operational in June 2012.

In June 2015 SSE submitted a section 36 application to the Scottish Government for a proposed 16 turbine extension to Gordonbush wind farm. It was then agreed that there would be a reduction in number of turbines from 16 to 11, increasing the maximum height of the turbines from 130m to 149.9m Increasing the tip height and rotor diameter of the turbines has the benefit of increasing the energy generation potential and efficiency of the site.
