Importance of Mental Health Promoted Through Blue Monday
Corporate Social Responsibility, Diversity and Inclusion, and Wellbeing all form a critical part of our agenda at Global Energy Group. As part of our approach to increase our focus in these areas, we have a team of Change Champions. This team is made up of individuals who truly want to make a difference, both internally and in the local community.
The first collaborative project of the year for our Change Champions was Blue Monday - a phenomenon that takes place annually on the third Monday of January. It is deemed to be the most depressing day of the year due to a combination of bad weather and long nights, the lingering regret of Christmas overindulgence, and guilt over abandoned New Year’s resolutions.
Although there is a lack of real evidence behind the phenomenon, our Change Champions believed it could only be a good thing if it promoted discussion about mental health.
Kicking off on Blue Monday and with sessions throughout January, the Change Champions Group teamed up with Emma Tomes, Learning & Development Consultant of The Helpful Coach Ltd, to deliver virtual workshops. Made available for all individuals in each of our business, the workshops focused on Helpful Thinking Strategies and How to Unplug with Mindfulness.
To combat any blue feelings, our Change Champions also encouraged their colleagues to go on a Blue Monday lunchtime walk, or to simply step outdoors for a breath of fresh air. While doing this, individuals were also asked to take a photo of something that brought them joy and happiness.
As well as enjoying a refreshing lunch time walk, our colleagues over at Global E&C also created a feel-good 80’s, 90’s and 00’s office playlist was created, dogs were welcomed into the office to spread puppy love, and energy-boosting treats were ordered from Starbucks.
