Global Energy Group Launch Change Champions to enhance focus and increase impact for the group

Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), Diversity and Inclusion (D&I) and Wellbeing all form a critical part of our agenda at Global Energy Group. As part of our approach to increase our focus in these areas, we have recently launched our first ever team of Change Champions. Established by our People and Culture department, our Change Champion team is chaired by Christine Cochrane, our People and Culture Director. Christine joined the business just over a year ago in order to develop and deliver a People strategy aligned to the Group’s development and transition through the evolving energy markets.

Christine said “True CSR goes beyond the realms of charitable giving and extends to include diversity, growth, development and wellness in the workplace. To be truly inclusive means that we need employee engagement at all levels – this cannot be a top down approach; communication of the importance and relevance of these crucial topics is essential for the success of our teams and businesses. Whilst there is already some incredible work being carried out in a number of our individual business units, our goal is to encourage groupwide collaboration facilitated by an empowered team who have the space to share and discuss ideas and work together to create a plan of engagement – enter our Change Champions. Our Change Champions team is made up of individuals from across our different portfolios who truly want to make a difference and it is important to me that they are the real voices for change, the voices that come from within our organisation and are heard throughout our organisation at every level.”

Emily Wilson, Commercial Lead for our Marine Division and one of the newly recruited Change Champions commented on why she chose to volunteer for the role;

“I volunteered to become a Change Champion because I think it’s important to get involved in initiatives which can help shape the organisation going forwards. I’m keen to help make a difference and having worked within the Group for the past 7 years feel I have a good understanding of where some changes could be made in order to develop and improve our working environment.

I also look forward to learning from the other Change Champions, the working group is a great opportunity to understand other parts of the business and the challenges they face and also helps develop a collaborative environment.”

Michael Howie, Group Market Analysis Lead was also keen to be involved. He commented;

“Global Energy Group is experiencing significant challenges as we have been forced to pivot our business to embrace new norms and ways of working in the middle of an industry transitioning to a low carbon economy. I want to help understand this change in more detail in order to help motivate others to fully embrace the next phase of growth.

Although change can be daunting, I recognise that there will be many opportunities created on this journey of change and I want to play my part in helping create future opportunities for our people to play theirs.”

In the forthcoming months the change champions will be working on a number of collaborative projects, including supporting the creation of a diversity and inclusion strategy and developing innovative approaches to employee engagement particularly around wellbeing and corporate social responsibility. We look forward to sharing more in the weeks ahead.

We’ve created the above video montage of all Change Champions and why they chose to be part of the Team.
