Benchmarking our health, safety and wellbeing initiative

The Healthy Working Lives Award, which is part of NHS Scotland’s Health at Work programme, includes thinking about how health and well-being can be actively promoted in the workplace, such as supporting smoking cessation or healthy eating. It is also about ensuring that health is not adversely affected by work or workplace hazards, and providing access to advice and support for people who need it. NHS Highland is committed to a programme of improving workplace health through the Healthy Working Lives award programme.

Two of our locations have taken lead on this initiative, Evanton and Nord Centre, Aberdeen. Both are working towards achieving the Bronze Award. This will continue our group wide campaign to educate and empower our employees with a healthy awareness to enable them to lead a healthy lifestyle, endorsing our Resolute on Safety and Quality core value.

Katy Gunn from UCAN Aberdeen visited Nord Centre to speak to the team about Men’s Health and Urological cancer awareness and how to recognise the symptoms. We were also delighted to present Katy with a donation to UCAN.

Evanton have set up several campaigns, Healthy Eating, Stop Smoking, Drug & Alcohol awareness and a variety of fitness activities.

Both locations have formed a HWL Committee and have submitted their applications to Healthy Working Lives for approval. We should hear the outcome by January 2020.

Global Energy Group is committed to the health and wellbeing of our employees and the wider community.  Both of our initial locations will be able to share their experience with the rest of the group enabling other divisions to attain the entry level standard. This will continue our group wide campaign to educate and empower our employees with a healthy awareness to enable them to lead a healthy lifestyle.
