UK Government Prime Minister, Rishi Sunak, visits the Port of Nigg

Global Energy Group was privileged to welcome the UK Government Prime Minister, The Rt Hon Rishi Sunak, to the Port of Nigg on Thursday 23rd May.

PM Visit to Nigg

The Prime Minister was given a tour of the state-of-the-art facility, renowned for its vital role in supporting the offshore energy industry, and took the opportunity to interact with the Port’s dedicated workforce to learn more about the essential work being undertaken onsite.

Upon his arrival, the Prime Minister was welcomed by Roy MacGregor OBE, Chairman of Global Energy Group, alongside Douglas Ross MP, Leader of the Scottish Conservative Party, Jia MacKenzie, Board Director at GEG Capital and Iain Sinclair, Executive Director at Global Energy Group.

Following the welcome, Mr. Sunak toured the site and was introduced to members of the Global Energy Group Fabrication and Port of Nigg teams, who are currently involved a number of significant offshore energy projects, including the marshalling and pre-assembly of the 882MW Moray West Offshore Wind Farm.

Roy MacGregor OBE, expressed his gratitude for the visit, stating, "We were pleased to welcome Mr Sunak to the Port of Nigg. It provided us with a positive opportunity to showcase the Port of Nigg's achievements, our support for the offshore energy industry, and our commitment to being at the forefront of innovation and sustainability."

PM Visit to Fabrication

During the visit, the Prime Minister met with Calum MacPherson, Chief Executive of the Inverness & Cromarty Firth Green Freeport, representatives from Global Energy Group, and officials from the private and public sectors. Productive discussions were held on the current and future developments taking place at the Port of Nigg, aligned with the UK’s net zero and energy security targets.

The Prime Minister's visit recognises the vital positioning of Nigg as a Green Freeport Energy Superhub and furthers the port's reputation as a centre of excellence in the energy industry.
