Strictly Inverness: Jamie Dolan Steps Out of His Comfort Zone

Can you remember the last time you stepped out of your comfort zone? We all know how much easier it is to remain within the boundaries of where we feel comfortable. But in doing this, we often miss out on professional opportunities, life experiences, and personal growth.

Someone who is refusing to let their comfort zone hold them back is Jamie Dolan, Lead Piping Designer from our EPC contractor business, Global E&C. From the 18th - 21st of May, Jamie is stepping out onto the Strictly Inverness dancefloor to raise money for Highland Hospice and Inverness Ice Centre.

Jamie expressed why he wanted to participate: "I wanted to take part mainly because of what the event is in support of, The Highland Hospice. The charity helps so many people in lots of different ways and having met many of the staff behind the scenes, they really are an amazing bunch of people who dedicate all of their time to the patients and those surrounding them."

As well as supporting a local charity, Jamie also explained how he is set to overcome his own challenge: "I wanted to take part to help with my anxiety. Many people wouldn’t necessarily know its something I suffer from, because as I have grown, I have found ways to better manage it - however, it is still something that surrounds me. Taking part in such a large event with over 600 people watching felt like an ideal opportunity to try and overcome, or at least deal with it in some way."

The competition is a once in a lifetime experience. However, it is a huge challenge. Jamie commented on the commitment that's required: "We take part in three practice sessions per week, one group dance session and two individual couple lessons. My dance styles are Street and American Smooth. Both of these are going extremely well and I’m looking forward to seeing my progress over the next few months as we perfect the routines."

Strictly Inverness will commence on Wednesday 18th May with a launch show featuring talent from various Highland dance schools. On Thursday 19th and Friday 20th May, eight couples will perform two individual and one group dance. The top four from each night will go through to the Grand Final on Saturday 21st May where the winning couple will be crowned.

Global Energy Group would like to take this opportunity to wish Jamie the best of luck. We look forward to seeing you on the dancefloor in May!
