Roy MacGregor OBE presented with ‘Outstanding Contribution to the Regional Economy of the Highlands & Islands’ Award by Prosper

Global Energy Group is delighted to announce that our Chairman, Roy MacGregor OBE, has been presented with the prestigious 'Outstanding Contribution to the Regional Economy of the Highlands & Islands' award, at Prosper’s Highlands & Islands Business Excellence Awards.

This award recognises Roy's four decades of dedication and leadership, transforming the region's business landscape while remaining deeply committed to the Highland community. His efforts have created jobs, boosted investment, and positioned the region as a key player in Scotland's energy transition.

One of Roy’s most significant achievements has been the transformation of the Port of Nigg into a state-of-the-art energy hub. Under his leadership, the facility has played a critical role in major renewable energy projects, supported the deployment of over 3.5GW of offshore wind assets. The award also highlighted the creation of the Nigg Skills Academy, which has provided essential training and employment opportunities for the local workforce.

His commitment to Scotland’s clean energy future is further evident in his efforts to position the Cromarty Firth for green freeport status. This initiative, as Roy himself describes it, is “one of the biggest industrial opportunities Scotland has ever had,” and a vital step in securing a prosperous, low-carbon future for the region.

Reflecting on the award, Roy said: “I am truly honoured to receive this recognition. I am a proud Highlander, and it has been my life’s work to help create opportunities for the people and businesses here. This award is a reflection of the incredible individuals and teams I’ve had the privilege of working with over the years, and I look forward to continuing our journey toward a cleaner, greener and prosperous future.”
