Global Energy celebrates another milestone as the final components for Scotland’s largest windfarm depart from the Port of Nigg

Moray Offshore Wind Farm (East) Limited (MOWEL) is a joint venture company owned by EDP Renewables and ENGIE, with the overall scope of the Moray East Offshore Wind Farm project to construct an offshore wind farm with a total installed capacity of 950MW based on 100no. V164-9.5MW Vestas wind turbine generators (WTG). The WTGs were installed on the jacket foundations which were handled by Global Energy, under a separate Storage & Marshalling contract with DEME Offshore, at their Port of Nigg facility the previous year.

Global’s wind logistics division, Global Port Services, played a pivotal role in the Pre-Assembly works based at the Port of Nigg, covering many aspects of the project to support our client with the receipt and discharge of wind turbine generator (WTG) main components from Denmark, the pre-assembly and storage of the wind turbine generator components on site and load out of components to the construction Jack Up Vessel (JUV), including all site based support services involving site preparation and enabling works to facilitate the pre-assembly work, provision of heavy lift mobile and crawler cranes, hire of self-propelled modular trailers (SPMT), heavy transport, plant hire and equipment, stevedoring & specialist labour supply, project management and liaison between all sub-contractors and stakeholders.

The Fred Olsen installation vessel, Blue Tern, safely departed from the Port of Nigg on Friday 10th September destined for final installation in the field as the remaining 4 WTGs were loaded out.

Global have secured 4 major offshore wind projects over the past few years, including the jacket foundations for the Moray Easy Offshore Wind Farm and the Storage & marshalling and Pre-Assembly activities for the Beatrice Offshore Wind Farm project, all made possible by the continuous investment and development in the Port of Nigg facility and the skills and expertise of the teams on site.
