Group HSEQ Director

Mike Mann

I want to use best practice to improve the safety culture of the group through education, coaching and mentoring.

I have spent over 35 years in the oil & gas industry, with the majority of that time spent in HSSEQ, CSR and Risk Management roles and have extensive experience in the development and continuous improvement of Health, Safety, Environmental, Quality and Risk Management systems and processes.

I have worked across construction, drilling and production operations, both on and offshore for major oil & gas operators and Tier 1 contractors in the UKCS, Africa, Gulf of Mexico, Latin America, Australia and Asia and have a wealth of experience managing risk and HSSEQ in a variety of roles and environments.

Do you have any Professional Goals/ Aspirations for the industry?

I am seeking to use some of the best practices adopted from my Oil and Gas experiences to transfer them into the renewables environment to improve the safety culture of the group through education, coaching and mentoring, providing excellence in Health & Wellbeing, Safety Leadership, Environmental responsibility and Quality systems to ensure we are a provider of choice with a can do attitude.

Do you have any Personal Goals that you are hoping to achieve?

I am working my way through my bucket list - I have travelled on Concorde, visited the Great Barrier Reef, explored the Himalayas, to the Khyber Pass and the Sahara Desert. I have walked along the Great Wall of China and jumped out of an aircraft (with a parachute!). I still have not been to Rome, which I hope to achieve in 2023 and would also like to bag a reasonable number of the 282 Munro’s across Scotland.

What inspires you?

I have a passion for making a difference, building relationships with people, gaining their trust and supporting them to fulfil their career ambitions.

Why do you work with GEG Group of companies?

I believe in the values, like the people and love the Highlands. Global is a diversity and unique business with it’s own challenges, and I love a challenge and an opportunity to make a difference.

What is the best piece of advice you have been given?

You never stop learning in life and you don’t know what you don’t know!

Be respectful, be honest, accept the things that you have no control to change and focus on making a difference in the areas that you have influence. These were wise words from my father who’s work ethic was never in doubt, he worked hard in harsh conditions at times to provide his family with opportunities that he never had, and in over 50 years of work never lost a day to sickness absence.
